Frances Ekvall
With my paintings, I want to transform a vision of nature, the mystical and evocative feelings experienced while in the midst of gardens. My subject matter is used as a vehicle of expression of symbolism, meditation, tranquility, spirituality, sorrow, joy, beauty and new life.

The plant and/or flower is a metaphor for life as in the transformation and the action of life itself.

Culture forms, and translates our feelings and expectations. We have a whole “language of flowers.”

I have been a member of the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA) since 1994 and have participated in solo and group shows and given to charitable auctions since graduating with a painting diploma from ACAD in 1987. I have served on advisory boards of The Muttart Art Gallery and The New Gallery from 1988 to 1993 as well as received Alberta Culture Travel Grants in 1986 and 1989.

My paintings are in the Alberta Arts Foundation and in private collections in Australia, Japan, Ireland, USA, Sweden and Canada.
