Burke Darling
In my artistic practice, I produce sculpture that reflects athletic and human movement in figurative form. To portray the illusion of speed, strength, or height I use the interplay of light and shadow. Currently I produce "shadow sculpture" which is made with steel mesh. Light is projected through the mesh to produce a shadow on the wall that is visually more detailed than the mesh and it has the benefit of movement.
I also produce sculpture in a variety of mediums such a clay, composite materials, and steel. In these materials my subjects are usually athletes captured in a moment of exciting athletic performance. The use of light and shadow to project movement is again key to the success of the piece.
